A Walk Through History

September 26 started off with a pouring rain, but by noon the clouds had parted. The sun was shining brightly by 1 p.m., just in time for the Windham Historical Society’s tour of Arlington Cemetery. Haley Pal and Walter Lamb were the presenters. Haley spoke about Lena Megguier, the young woman from South Windham who was working as a housemaid in Portland’s West End in the year 1898.

Many people who follow her diary on the Historical Society’s Facebook page came to hear a bit of her history and some visitors even brought flowers for her grave. Walter talked about the Lamb family and its longtime ties to Windham. The Society is hoping to do another trip to Arlington in 2022 with more family histories added to the tour.
